Field Trials - Romania
Open pit extraction in Romania:
- The Roşia Poieni district
- Extraction of the copper ore
- Target for extraction: mineralization of low copper content delimited by the isolation of 0.1% Cu content
- The exact location of Cu deposit has not been found so far due to expensive drillings
AIM: mineralogical knowledge.
Solution:
The integration of multi-temporal satellite monitoring data and drone or ground-based observations will allow to improve mineral predictions and track surface changes in mining areas in order to:
- reduce blasting required prior to drilling operations;
- measure operations, e.g. determine the volumes of withdrawn rock;
- manage environmental risks assessment e.g. create buffer zones close to the pit and tracking environmental indicators within these zones; and
- prediction of landslides of the benches/slopes of the ponds.
The copper ore deposit from Roşia Poieni geographically is located in the area of the Apuseni Mountains about 7 km south of the Arieş river.

Expected outcomes:
- reduce blasting required prior to drilling operations,
- measure operations, e.g. determine the volumes of withdrawn rock and
- manage environmental risks assessment e.g. create buffer zones close to the pit and tracking environmental indicators within these zones
- prediction of landslides of the benches/slopes of the ponds.
